Calling all primary schools: help shape future school data tools in Wales

Have your say on the digital data tools that may replace or improve My Local School (MLS) and the All Wales Core Data Sets (AWCDS)

The Welsh Government has commissioned The Public Services Consultants to run a discovery exercise to help shape future digital tools for school data.

We are exploring how current systems such as MLS and the AWCDS work in practice, and how they could be replaced with smarter, more user‑friendly tools.

Why we want to hear from you

We want to understand:

  • What works well with MLS, AWCDS and related data processes

  • The challenges schools face when accessing, using or interpreting data

  • What teachers and schools would value from future digital data tools

We are particularly keen to hear from primary schools, as these views have not yet been fully represented in our research.

Your insights will help inform future systems designed to support learning, improvement and fair, transparent use of data across Wales.

What does taking part involve

Participation may involve:

  • a short 1 to 1 interview (around 60 minutes in duration)

  • a small focus group discussion, or

  • completing a brief survey

You can choose the format that suits you best.

How to register your interest

If you would like to take part in this research, please complete the online short registration form (via Microsoft 365) by Friday 15 May 2026.
