SHRN primary school data collection survey now open for registration
As a national partnership between the Welsh Government, Cardiff University and Public Health Wales The School Health Research Network (SHRN) supports schools to better understand and respond to the health and well-being needs of their learners. Previously focused on secondary schools, the network expanded into primary settings in 2024 and is now being further developed, offering schools the opportunity to contribute to a nationally recognised programme that informs policy and practice across Wales.
Participating schools will receive tailored school-level feedback reports, providing valuable insights into learners’ experiences, behaviours and well-being. These insights can support schools in identifying strengths, planning targeted actions, and aligning their work with the Curriculum for Wales and whole-school approaches to mental health and well-being.
Importantly, SHRN has been designed with schools in mind. Data collection approaches are practical and manageable. By taking part, primary schools will also join a growing national community, with opportunities to share learning and collaborate with others committed to improving outcomes for children.
Invitation to register
An invitation to register has been sent directly to primary school inboxes, with a closing date of 24 July 2026. School well-being leads are encouraged to respond within this timeframe to secure their place in the next phase of this important work.
The expansion of SHRN into primary education reflects a shared commitment to early intervention and prevention, with the network now becoming embedded within primary school settings and supporting children to develop healthy behaviours and resilience from an early age.
